Library profile
The library of the Department of History at Heidelberg University is part of the Departmental Library of History and Cultural Studies. It is a reference library with lending possibilities (overnight or week-end loans) for students of the department. It mainly contains works on European medieval and modern history and currently comprises around 88,000 volumes (including journals) and 114 ‘current’ journal titles (as of September 2023). The library's holdings are fully recorded in the Heidelberg University Library's online catalogue HEIDI and in the national online catalogue of the Southwest German Library Network (SWB).
The library of the Institute for Franconian and Palatinate History (approx. 21,000 volumes, 54 current journals) and the Schurman Library for American History (approx. 10,000 volumes, 1 current journal) are located in the same building as the library of the Department of History. The holdings of these libraries are also fully recorded in the Heidelberg University Library's online catalogue HEIDI and in the national online catalogue of the Southwest German Library Network (SWB).
