Prof. Dr. Manfred Berg American History

Welcome to the website of the Curt Engelhorn Chair in American History.

The Curt Engelhorn Chair offers a wide thematic variety of lectures and seminars about North American history, reaching from the colonial beginnings of North America to the present day. The focus in research on political, social and cultural history from the researchers active under the chair makes itself noticeable in the thematic subjects that are offered in the teaching. Next to general overview courses, the chair also concentrates its teaching on Afro American history, among other ethnic groups, as well as on political polarization, democracy and transnational and transcultural interconnections between the USA and Germany.

The chair is named after the German-American entrepreneur Curt Engelhorn, who founded it in 1999.
