Prof. Dr. Silke Mende Contemporary history

The Chair of Contemporary History covers the period from the end of World War II to the present day in its research and teaching. At the same time, it places this period in the context of longer historical processes, thus also addressing the “long 20th century” from a broader perspective. In addition to German history, the regional focus is on French, British, and Italian history. The centerpiece is contemporary European history as intertwined history, embedding topics of German and Western European history in international and global horizons. Particular interest is paid to the (post-)colonial dimensions of European societies.
